Sustainability at Grays Court
Grays Court takes its responsibility with regards to the environment and sustainability seriously and we endeavour to ensure that this takes priority in our operations. In view of this commitment please see below individual our priorities outlined.
Whether in central operations such as boilers, or with lighting systems and kitchen equipment, Grays Court works to reduce energy use while sustaining and, whenever possible, enhancing our guest experience.
Within the guest bedrooms and kitchens, we continue to implement efficiencies that reduce water wastage. We invite our guests to re-use towels and bathrobes according to industry standards in order to reduce water and chemicals used by commercial laundries.
Recycling and Waste Reduction
In combination with recycling efforts, we look for opportunities to reduce the use of paper and other disposables wherever possible. Glass, cardboard and plastics are collected by a local recycling company. Newspapers are sent to a hedgehog sanctuary and all suitable food waste is composted in our garden. New composting bins are under construction and a chipper/shredder reduces woody material to enable composting.
Our complimentary Clarins guest bedroom toiletries are all-natural, essential oil-based, custom-formulated products. They are made without preservatives and artificial ingredients and packaged in recyclable containers. Clarins replace any ingredients they harvest and 73% of their packaging is recycled.
In keeping with our heritage all keys to guest rooms are traditional brass keys which re-usable.
Recognising the importance of the use of safer products where possible we use cleaning products made with bio-based oils and other natural cleaners. These reduce the use of products with chlorine bleach and petrochemical derivatives. These more natural products have proven performance, are less irritating to guests and employees’ skin, and less destructive to the environment. Our paper products are made from recycled materials, we’ve switched to eco-products where possible.
Local products, fresh and seasonal produce are a significant focus of Grays Court and The Bow Room Restaurant. We aim to provide sustainably sourced cuisine that offers our guests the unique opportunity to experience a greater connection to the region of Yorkshire that they are visiting.
We aim to integrate organic produce, hormone-free meats and dairy, and other natural products that offer guests healthier food selections. Our produce is grown without chemicals, and we utilise organic pest control to avoid injury to wildlife.
Bottled Water Alternatives
In support of waste reduction, and a higher-quality experience, we offer complimentary refilled water jugs, and other options designed to offer guests convenient and palatable alternatives to water in plastic bottles.
